Location: Dearborn, MI

Work Model: Hybrid - 4 days onsite (Monday-Thursday)

Pay Rate: $45-$46/hour (W2)

Duration: Long-term contract

Role Overview
We are seeking a highly technical Software Systems Developer / Systems Engineer to lead the development of complex vehicle features from early concept through production. This role focuses on system architecture, software development, and integration of next‑generation vehicle technologies, combining systems engineering with hands-on software expertise.
The ideal candidate has experience launching complex features or systems, strong problem-solving skills, and deep knowledge of both hardware and software operations within an automotive environment.



Key Responsibilities

  • Act as systems architect for feature development with a focus on new and emerging technologies
  • Lead feature development at the systems level from early concept through production, including upgrade and migration planning
  • Develop high-level network, wiring, and power distribution architectures (schematics, block diagrams, topologies)
  • Allocate features and functions to meet cost, quality, performance, and customer requirements
  • Create feature, functional, and implementation-level specifications and requirements
  • Develop and maintain:
    • Failure Mode Avoidance documentation
    • Feature verification and test plans
    • Functional safety and cybersecurity assessments and mitigations
  • Design feature systems using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and software development practices (Python, C++; tools such as Gherkin)
  • Develop, test, and deploy endpoint hardware and software solutions across the enterprise while ensuring compatibility with existing systems
  • Review existing system designs to identify cost, quality, and performance improvements
  • Collaborate with product, program, core engineering, and cross-functional teams to deliver balanced technical solutions
  • Analyze complex, multi-functional systems and implement innovative solutions
  • Lead technical trade-off discussions across multiple functions
  • Clearly communicate complex technical concepts, issues, and resolutions
  • Apply connected data and analytics to better understand customer use cases
  • Engage with suppliers to evaluate emerging technologies and implementation opportunities
  • Serve as a technical contributor to next-generation vehicle development, bridging systems and software engineering to deliver advanced digital experiences

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
  • 3+ years of Systems Engineering experience (automotive preferred)
  • 3+ years of Software Engineering experience
  • Strong understanding of vehicle electrical systems and features
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Electrical module design
    • Networking and CAN communication
    • Wiring and power distribution
    • Body, chassis, and vehicle systems
  • Proven experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve complex software and system issues





Preferred Experience

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in an automotive engineering role
  • Electrical systems engineering experience, including familiarity with the systems engineering V-model
  • Knowledge of quality and systems documentation (DFMEA, boundary diagrams, special characteristics)
  • Strong background in writing specifications and technical requirements
  • Hands-on experience developing, implementing, and supporting software applications
  • Experience progressing customer use cases through design, architecture, development, testing, and integration
  • Strong systems thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lead multi-functional teams and technical discussions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with electrical design and release (D&R) and/or electrical testing





Education

  • Required: Bachelor's degree
  • Preferred: Master's degree
