Job Description

  • $120,000 annual W2 compensation, distributed weekly; full health, dental, and vision coverage from day one
  • On-site role at an Alpha K-8 school in Beverly Hills, CA; La Jolla (San Diego), CA; Palo Alto, CA; Piedmont, CA; South Bay (LA), CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Miami, FL; Miami Beach, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Chicago, IL; Raleigh, NC; Portland, OR; or Seattle, WA (relocation assistance available)
  • Your role is not instruction. Your role is motivation.

The most powerful way to support a student who reaches 99% of their target is to insist they finish. If that expectation feels harsh, this role is not for you. If it resonates because maintaining high standards is how you demonstrate belief in a student's potential, continue reading.

At Alpha, academic learning happens through AI-driven applications. No traditional lectures. No physical textbooks. Roughly 60% of your time will be spent facilitating one-hour life-skills sessions on topics like public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback exchange. Around 30% will involve direct 1:1 or small-group coaching, where you review student performance via Coachbot analytics and guide each learner toward their weekly application goals. The remaining 10% is dedicated to data analysis that informs your coaching strategy for the week ahead. You will not follow a rigid script; sessions provide a foundation, and top performers in this role modify them and create new content when needed.

A successful semester means at least 90% of students in your cohort meet their weekly application targets, demonstrate measurable progress on Test2Pass life-skill assessments, and rate their experience with you at 4 out of 5 or higher. Falling short on any of these three metrics means the role is not being fulfilled. Once you demonstrate consistent ability to maintain these standards, advancement opportunities open to Lead Guide—where you mentor newer Guides while continuing to lead a cohort—and eventually to Campus Lead, where you oversee an entire school and manage family relationships.

If you prefer conventional teaching, expect pre-built curricula to be handed to you, or believe warmth and rigor cannot coexist, this position is not aligned with your approach. If your background includes athletic coaching, camp counseling, tutoring where you refused to let students give up, or performance work that required commanding the attention of middle schoolers, the final evaluation step before an offer is a full day on-site coaching actual Alpha students. If that prospect excites you most, submit your application today.

    What You Will Be Doing

    • Facilitating one-hour life-skills sessions for K-8 groups covering public speaking, focus, feedback exchange, and other foundational competencies, modifying existing frameworks and creating new content when you identify needs
    • Conducting daily individual and small-group coaching conversations that drive every student toward their weekly application targets, leveraging Coachbot data, Alpha's reward structures (campus currency, performance leaderboards), and personal rapport to overcome reluctance
    • Delivering the Test2Pass (Alpha's competency-based evaluation) for each life skill, and continuing to coach students who do not initially pass until mastery is achieved
    • Adjusting your approach across a broad developmental spectrum, from kindergarteners requiring dynamic, movement-based engagement to 8th graders needing candid conversation and personal accountability
    • Analyzing weekly cohort metrics in Coachbot, pinpointing students falling behind, and modifying your coaching tactics for the upcoming week based on performance trends

    What You Won’t Be Doing

    • Delivering content at a whiteboard; subject-matter instruction is handled by the applications, not by you
    • Creating a full curriculum from scratch; you begin with an established framework and personalize it through your energy and narrative approach
    • Passively monitoring students on devices; motivation at Alpha is direct, individualized, and persistent
    • Working through institutional approval processes to secure support for struggling learners; when a student requires additional coaching, you decide and implement immediately
    • Assessing assignments, preparing for standardized exams, or managing family communications; Campus Leads handle parent engagement, and the other tasks do not exist in this model

    Student Success Coach Key Responsibilities

Guarantee that every student in your K-8 cohort achieves their weekly learning targets, demonstrates mastery of each life skill, and completes the year affirming they valued their time with you.

    Basic Requirements

    • Available to work on-site at an Alpha campus in Beverly Hills, CA; La Jolla (San Diego), CA; Palo Alto, CA; Piedmont, CA; South Bay (LA), CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Miami, FL; Miami Beach, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Chicago, IL; Raleigh, NC; Portland, OR; or Seattle, WA (relocation assistance available)
    • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
    • Minimum 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 students (including classroom teaching, coaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or youth program management)
    • A concrete example you can articulate of motivating a K-8 student toward a challenging objective: the objective itself, your actions, and the result
    • Comfort allowing AI to manage instructional delivery while you concentrate on motivation and life-skills development
    • Authorization to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship

    Nice-to-have Requirements

    • Background in youth sports coaching, debate programs, camp leadership, theater, or after-school initiatives where you held direct accountability for motivating children toward defined outcomes
    • History of personal excellence (academic, athletic, or professional) that makes holding others to rigorous standards a consistent practice, not an adopted stance
    • Communication and presence skills sufficient to engage a room of 12-year-olds for an hour without needing to elevate your voice
    • Proven ability to transform unmotivated or resistant students into engaged, active learners
