Job Summary:

The Oncology Infusion Nurse is responsible for administering chemotherapy IV fluids via peripherally inserted central catheters and providing comprehensive nursing care to oncology patients. This role involves patient assessment, education, coordination of care with the healthcare team, and maintaining a safe therapeutic environment. The nurse will also provide guidance to healthcare team members, participate in quality management, and document patient care accurately. A minimum of one year oncology nursing experience is required, with a focus on delivering safe and effective infusion services and follow-up care post-chemotherapy.

Responsibilities:

• Administer chemotherapy IV fluids via peripherally inserted central catheters.
• Identify, assess, and diagnose patient problems through assessment and interaction.
• Educate patients, families, and significant others about post-discharge care programs.
• Initiate patient care meetings with the healthcare team to revise care plans as needed.
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic patient care environment.
• Provide guidance and direction to healthcare team members to ensure quality care.
• Stay current on advances in nursing care through participation in educational programs.
• Orient and educate new staff on nursing techniques and departmental procedures.
• Provide and oversee direct patient care according to nursing protocols and physician orders.
• Utilize knowledge of medications, procedures, infection control, and safety precautions; initiate interventions in crisis situations.
• Participate in total quality management to improve patient and system outcomes.
• Document patient care accurately in the healthcare record according to standards.
• Direct and delegate care to other team members.
• Provide safe, effective, appropriate, and comprehensive infusion services to oncology patients.
• Provide education and follow-up care after patients have been released from chemotherapy.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Associate's Degree in Nursing (Bachelor's Degree preferred).
• At least one year of oncology nursing experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Ability to administer chemotherapy via peripherally inserted central catheters.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification (to be obtained within one year of hire).

Special Considerations:

• Must provide safe and effective infusion services in an oncology setting.
• Requires ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
• Must participate in ongoing education and quality improvement initiatives.

Scheduling:

• Work schedule and shifts to be determined by facility needs; flexibility may be required.
