Job Summary:

The Perioperative Registered Nurse (RN) plays a critical role in delivering nursing care to patients before, during, and after surgical operations and procedures. This role demands a high level of attention to detail, efficiency, and a strong commitment to patient safety. The Perioperative RN must possess a broad range of nursing skills, adaptability, and the ability to respond quickly and effectively in diverse and urgent situations. The position supports surgical, trauma, and emergency care in a rural hospital setting.

Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care in pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative settings.
• Maintain aseptic and sterile techniques to ensure patient safety.
• Conduct patient assessments and monitor patient status throughout surgical procedures.
• Collaborate effectively with surgical teams, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals.
• Respond promptly and accurately to emergency situations, including trauma cases in the Emergency Room.
• Manage circulating nurse duties for general, orthopedic, and obstetric surgical cases, including C-sections.
• Provide patient care independently during night shifts as the sole OR nurse on call.
• Document patient care activities and communicate changes in patient condition clearly.
• Participate in on-call rotation with rapid response expectations.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse licensure in Utah or a compact state.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification or ability to obtain within three months of hire.
• Excellent knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques.
• Strong communication skills including oral, written, and listening abilities.
• Ability to remain calm and effective under stressful and rapidly changing circumstances.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience and knowledge of surgical operation procedures.
• Prior experience in pre-operative and post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) nursing.
• Skills in pre-op, PACU, and circulating nursing for general, orthopedic, and obstetric cases.
• Experience handling trauma cases in the Emergency Room setting.

Special Considerations:

• Position requires participation in a rotating on-call schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• On-call response time expectation is within 20 minutes to the hospital.
• Work environment is rural with a diverse case mix, requiring adaptability and quick decision-making.
• Must have emotional and physical stamina to manage high-stress situations effectively.

Scheduling:

• Monday through Friday work schedule with five 8-hour shifts.
• Rotating on-call responsibilities averaging 7-9 days per month.
