Local Newscast Manager, Broadcast Media-Montana Public Radio The University of Montana invites applications for a Local Newscast Manager for Broadcast Media-Montana Public Radio (MTPR).
MTPR is seeking a collaborative and innovative newsroom leader to fill a newly created position that will help shape the future of our local journalism. This role oversees the editorial vision and daily production of MTPR's flagship news magazines, Morning Edition and All Things Considered, while working across teams to strengthen collaboration and advance our multiplatform audience strategy.
The ideal candidate is an experienced editor and newsroom leader with a proven record of producing compelling broadcast journalism—from breaking news and in-depth field reporting to interviews and feature storytelling. They bring a forward-looking vision for local audio journalism and a passion for creating content that informs, engages, and connects with both loyal listeners and new audiences.

- Supervise, mentor, and develop newsroom staff, interns, and fellows through training, coaching, and performance management
- Serve as lead editor for news stories, interviews, and broadcast segments from concept to final production
- Ensure timely, high-quality delivery of broadcast content across radio, digital, podcast, and social media platforms
- Manage live and remote broadcasts, including special event coverage such as elections, debates, and forums
- Support newsroom operations by assisting with hiring, onboarding, scheduling, workflow improvements, and strategic planning
- Coordinate with digital and audience teams to expand the reach of broadcast journalism across online platforms

- Master's Degree in a relevant field or Bachelor's with five to eight (5-8) years of experience in audio journalism, including reporting, producing and/or editing for broadcast
- Three to five (3-5) years of leading and managing a team and inspiring them to produce their best work
Preferred Qualifications: - Over five (5) years of management experience
- Experience in public broadcasting
Position Details :
Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, Letter of Appointment. Includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.
This position is flexible for day starting and ending times to accommodate news flow of the day but typically 9:00am – 6:00pm Monday through Friday, occasional evening & weekend work may be necessary.
