The Forensic Services Department at Pinebrook Family Answers is very proud to bring together the best of Criminal Justice and Human-Service research, to offer compassionate services designed to work. In this group facilitator role, you will spend your days helping incarcerated clients build vital knowledge and skills in a classroom-like setting; as well as coach them through jail visits with their children. Week to week, you will help your clients learn evidence-based curricula, foster their growth, and help them prepare for release. This is a unique direct-service position making a real impact in the lives of returning citizens.

Although your primary office will be located inside the Northampton County Prison, you will be employed through Pinebrook Family Answers—a large nonprofit and leader in providing behavioral health services throughout Northeast, PA. WHAT You’ll Do as a Facilitator:

  • Attend a variety of essential trainings including Motivational Interviewing, Cultural Competency, Seeking Safety®, Parenting Inside Out®, Moral Recognition Therapy®, and Anger Management®
  • Assist corrections staff with finding and recruiting potential clients
  • Complete program intakes
  • Facilitate programming as scheduled; including prep for lessons, track assignments and attendance, report outcomes, administer pre-and post-tests, etc. You may teach the curricula in a variety of settings (group/classroom, individual, or virtual) to best meet the needs of the clients and programs
  • Collaborate with clients/clients’ families, correctional staff, and other community partners for contact visits with eligible clients and their children
  • Make referrals to other jail and community resources as needed (e.g. Medical issues, GED, substance use treatment, etc.)
  • Build strong professional relationships with clients, staff, and community partners
  • Complete required documentation, including group case notes, outcome data, attendance, program satisfaction, etc.
  • Work collaboratively with correctional staff and participate in jail-required meetings, trainings, and protocol
  • Occasional travel to Pinebrook’s main office (402 N. Fulton Street, Allentown) for supervision, meetings, trainings, and agency events
  • Participate in individual and group supervision, Forensic Department meetings, county reentry meetings, staff meetings, Pinebrook’s continuous quality improvement program, and other service, quality, and advocacy activities.

  • An Associates degree from an accredited college or university in a human services or criminal justice related field, OR 3 years relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge of the criminal justice system and related issues ( addiction, trauma, mental health, etc. )

  • Optimism, empathy, and sensitivity to cultural and other differences amongst colleagues and clients.
