About Miami Correctional Facility :
Miami Correctional Facility is a level‑four high‑medium‑security facility located in Bunker Hill, Indiana, with a capacity of more than 3,100 incarcerated adult males. The facility sits on former Grissom Air Force Base property and also includes a level‑one facility with capacity for more than 200 incarcerated adult males. Miami Correctional Facility offers extensive educational and vocational programming, including a Braille translation program and a sewing shop serving community partners. Incarcerated individuals gain hands‑on skills that build employability for re‑entry and the programs help individuals develop strong work habits and meaningful experience. Employees at Miami Correctional Facility support the safe and secure operations of the facility 24 hours a day 7 days per week. Depending on operational needs, assignments will include working with state incarcerated individuals and/or federal detainees.
Role Overview:
As a Correctional Officer at the Miami Correctional Facility, you will be responsible for working as a part of a team in a maximum security Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) facility for adult males. During a typical 12 hour shift, you will maintain the security of the unit as well as the safety of staff and incarcerated individuals, while ensuring daily activities and programs proceed on schedule. During the 2 week pay period, Correctional Officers will work 85.75 hours. This consists of 7 total shifts, including 1 weekend.
Salary:
This position starts at a $22.00/hour base pay + $2/hour of differential pay, equating to $2,058.00 biweekly or $53,508.00 annually. Candidates with relevant experience may qualify for a higher base pay. These figures do not account for any overtime pay an employee may earn.
Eligible custody staff who complete required training and certification to perform federal detention duties will receive a $50 non-discretionary bonus for each shift that they are assigned those duties.

This role provides supervision for incarcerated individuals and requires a high level of judgment and care.
Your work is physically, emotionally and mentally demanding. As a Correctional Officer you must maintain constant vigilance for periods of up to sixteen (16) hours at a time. The environment tends to be stressful with a threat of physical harm or injury to oneself, coworkers, incarcerated individuals and/or the general public due to errors in judgement.
Depending on the duties performed or environment setting, frequent walking, standing, climbing stairs or ladders, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and/or similar movements may be involved.
This role requires keen observational and hearing skills to stay alert for possible dangerous situations.
