The Assistant Cross Country / Track & Field Coach (Throws) coordinates specific components of team training such as strength training as well as coordinates training and logistics. This position will have specific expertise in the Throwing events. Also, assigned duties within athletics and with event management as needed.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties:
Primary purpose is to teach and coach student-athletes while assisting the head coach in the conduct of the program.
Operates within the guidelines of Missouri Southern State University, MIAA, and NCAA rules and regulations.
Assess talent and recruit prospective student-athletes for all disciplines.
Assist Head Coach in conducting and planning training and conditioning schedules.
Assistant Head Distance coach with implementing practices as needed.
Assist Head Coach and Strength Coaches in strength training and planning.
Motivate and interact with athletes to assist them in performing at their best possible potential.
Assist with travel management/transportation set-up and follow through.
Work effectively and collaboratively with medical staff, including athletic trainers, team physicians and strength and conditioning coaches to ensure the physical and mental health and well-being of student-athletes.
Meet management for both Cross Country and Track & Field events.
Plan daily practices; supervise team.
Effectively teach track and field fundamentals and strategies to student-athletes.
Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes.
Meet with at-risk student-athletes to educate them about on-campus resources and to coordinate with ACTS department
Perform other related duties as required.
Education, Experience, and Licenses
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university required. Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 3- years’ related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to meet insurance requirements for driving university vehicles.
USATF Level 1 certification preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to attend cross country/track meets and conduct practice sessions in various outdoor weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
